Ms. Jamie Trogdon 2018-2019 HPU Americorp VISTA at Northwood

Jamie Trogdon, a recent High Point University graduate, will be working with us at Northwood Elementary School for the 2018-19 school year. She is an HPU AmeriCorps VISTA, which stands for Volunteers in Service to America. High Point University values the AmeriCorps VISTA program and has decided to partner with eight VISTAs this year. Through the resources and connections HPU provides, her job is to broaden the community’s knowledge about what sets Northwood apart. As an IB school, Northwood has many unique aspects that other schools simply do not offer. She also works closely with Communities in Schools to organize and assist student volunteers from High Point University, as well as other miscellaneous projects. Mrs. Trogdon’s goal is to have the community fall in love with Northwood the same way she has.

When asked about her favorite part of working at Northwood, she responded “I love holding the door during student drop-off and pick-up. Just by greeting the students as they enter and wishing them well as they leave, I have been able to establish relationships with many students. I look forward to seeing them every day and hearing about what’s going on in their lives.”

Mrs. Trogdon graduated from High Point University in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a minor in Religion. During her last semester at HPU, she was involved in a service learning course which included volunteering with Reading Connections at the High Point Public Library. Through this experience, she fell in love with the High Point community and decided to put graduate school on hold in order to stay immersed in the community. She is waiting to see where this year as a VISTA takes her next.
