The Public Health Department has advised GCS that Guilford County health metrics have deteriorated. The County is now in the red zone for multiple community health measures. This places the district at the highest risk level of transmission in schools. As a result, we will not move forward with reopening schools tomorrow for all PreK – 2nd grade students. Only those students who have already been participating in the voluntary, half day PreK and Kindergarten will continue at school.
We realize that this might be frustrating for parents and caregivers, however we cannot move forward while public health is advising us that we are at the highest risk level for transmission. The district will confer with the Health Department on a weekly basis in order to determine when we will move forward with re-opening.
We want our children back in school because we believe it is the best place for them to be. However, we cannot do this alone. Community members must do their part by following public health protocols- wear face coverings, stay socially distanced, limit exposure to other people outside of one’s immediate family, practice good hand hygiene and stay home if you are sick even if your symptoms are mild.
As always, we will keep you informed of changes as the occur.
