Principals Appointed to Jones and Jefferson Elementary Schools

The Guilford County Board of Education appointed two new principals to elementary schools at their meeting Tuesday night.

Starting July 1, Susan Villarrubia will be principal of Jefferson Elementary and W. Ronald Luciano will take the helm at Jones Elementary.

Villarrubia has been a dedicated employee of GCS since she started as a teacher at Guilford Middle. During the past 16 years she has served in multiple roles, including teacher, literacy academic coach, curriculum facilitator, assistant principal and currently as the student services administrator for the Southeastern region.

“We are excited to have Mrs. Villarrubia join our region as the new leader of Jefferson Elementary School,” says Dr. Randy Shaver, Northern region superintendent. “Her experience in school leadership and management, teaching and instruction, and establishing strong relationships will help her lead the school to increasing levels of student achievement.”

Luciano is currently serving as interim principal at Jamestown Middle where he has been an assistant principal since 2004. During his tenure, the school saw an increase in math, reading and science proficiency. He also worked with teachers to develop new teaching and peer observation models to help teachers in the classroom and created a staff tutoring schedule to promote more opportunities for small group and one-on-one student instruction.

“Mr. Luciano brings a wealth of successful administrative experience and is committed to serving all the students and families at Jones Elementary School,” says Dr. Tony Watlington, Central region superintendent.
