GCS Board of Education to Reconsider District 1 Candidates

The Guilford County Board of Education will reconsider the remaining candidates for the vacant District 1 seat.  A meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2 in the media center at Andrews High (1920 McGuinn Drive, High Point) to select the new appointee.

The meeting will be held after the board’s attorney contacts the remaining candidates to ensure they are still willing to serve, and confirms their eligibility through a public records review.

In the latest selection process, candidates were required to get a signed certificate from the Board of Elections stating they live in District 1.

The board selected Ed Squires as the appointee during a meeting on May 13, but he later withdrew, and on Tuesday, the board voted to remove Squires as the appointee and reconsider the remaining candidates.

The District 1 seat is currently vacant, and the selected candidate will serve the remainder of the term, which expires in December 2016.

District 1 represents Andrews High, Fairview Elementary, Florence Elementary, The Middle College at GTCC-High Point, Montlieu Academy of Technology, Parkview Village Expressive Arts Elementary, Penn-Griffin School for the Arts, Triangle Lake Montessori, Union Hill Elementary and Welborn Academy of Science and Technology.
