Guilford County Schools is proud to announce five new principal appointments for the 2015-16 school year.

Hairston Middle welcomes Calvin Freeman as its new principal. Freeman has served as an educator since 1998 and currently serves as a principal in Warren County Schools where he’s implemented several programs to encourage teacher professional development. He also has a strong background in school improvement efforts and working with the community to produce positive student outcomes.

Kristina Wheat will be the next principal for Johnson Street Global Studies. In 12 years of education, Wheat served as a Language Arts and Math teacher, curriculum facilitator, and most recently, interim principal at Northwest Middle where she has been an assistant principal since 2011. In that time, she oversaw several programs, including initiatives to close the achievement gap and decrease out-of-school suspensions.

Jamisa Williams will move into the principal’s office at The STEM Early College at N.C. A&T from her assistant principal position at Eastern High. Williams is a strong instructional leader and possesses a deep knowledge of best practices needed to continue to support the achievement at The STEM Early College.

Christine Joyner Greene Education Center welcomes Kristy Davis as its new principal. Davis has been a member of the GCS staff since 2004, filling various roles that have prepared her for the new position, including Exceptional Children (EC) teacher, assistant principal and most recently coordinator in the EC department.

Finally, the superintendent selected Ashton Clemmons as the new principal for Brooks Global Studies. Clemmons currently serves as GCS’ priority school coach, leading professional development and school planning for priority schools in the district. Before that, Clemmons was principal at Oak Hill Elementary, which was named 2013 N.C. Title I School of the Year under her leadership.
