Reading Specialist Named GCS Employee of the Month
Today is Dr. Seuss' Birthday, and while students across the country are celebrating one of our most beloved children’s authors, Guilford County Schools is celebrating a teacher who helps bring his words to life.
Elizabeth Sherrill is the reading specialist at Simkins Elementary, and today she was named the March 2015 GCS Employee of the Month. The 25-year teaching veteran and first-year reading specialist earned the nomination not only for the energetic way she works with young readers but also for her uplifting and positive attitude toward her colleagues, who are still building a rapport in this brand-new school.
“She has such a warm and caring presence, and you can tell how much her students and coworkers love her,” says the nomination from physical education teacher Gena Pagano. “Mrs. Sherrill is so deserving of the honor of Employee of the Month because she is a true team player at our school. Mrs. Sherrill inspires me to want to be the best that I can be.”
As Employee of the Month, Sherrill received a $50 gift card from Sam’s Club, which has given nearly $6,000 to outstanding GCS employees since 2005. During the month of March, her photo will hang at the district’s central offices, at Simkins Elementary and at the Sam’s Club on Wendover Avenue.
“Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!”
