Some GCS Employee Information Potentially Compromised
Guilford County Schools is working with 1,600 current and former employees to make sure their personal information is secure after an email containing confidential information was accidentally sent to an inactive email address outside of GCS.
The information may have included social security numbers and was meant for an authorized contractor working with GCS’ human resources department. However, because of a typo, the email went to an inactive address. While the likelihood of someone accessing the information is very slim, GCS is notifying impacted employees in an abundance of caution.
GCS is taking steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again, including seeking guidance from outside experts regarding data security.
“We deeply regret any frustration and concern this will cause our employees,” says Dr. Shirley Morrison, chief human resources officer for GCS. “We are working with the impacted employees to help safeguard their privacy.”
GCS is made up of more than 10,000 employees.
