At the July 24 Board of Education meeting, the board voted to award a construction contract to Bar Construction Company, Inc., in the amount of $999,000 for the Allen Jay Rock Gymnasium.

Last year, the board approved renovations for the historic rock gym that is on the campus of Allen Jay Middle. Once renovated, the gym will offer an assembly space for 450 people and two or three additional smaller conference rooms for district academic support and other meetings.

Also at the meeting on Thursday, the board approved staff to move forward with four priority projects.

These included:

  Scope: Media Center Addition, Cafeteria Expansion and Moderate Renovations
  Construction Budget: $8,323,146

  Scope: Prototype Replacement School
  Construction Budget: $10,594,322
• Project: Guilford Middle School
  Scope: Prototype Replacement School
  Construction Budget: $22,383,607
