2015 GCS Parent Engagement Conference a Huge Success
Hundreds of parents, children, educators and community members came through the doors of Ragsdale High School on Saturday morning to attend the 2015 GCS Parent Engagement Conference. They all came with the common goal of learning more about important topics in GCS and ways to get more involved to help students succeed.
This conference was sponsored by the Guilford County Council of PTAs, the Guilford County Schools (GCS) Title I Department and Guilford Parent Academy (GPA). Each department brought in their expertise, and this allowed for a variety of topics to be covered – everything from Say Yes to Education to homework help.
The conference offered quality information and activities for all ages. In addition to the sessions for parents and caregivers, children were entertained by JLine Dance Crew, a nationally-known performance group, which provided a high-energy presentation that touched on important topics such as respect, responsibility and anti-bullying. Children were also able to attend sessions created just for them such as art, music, Mad Science and Bricks for Kidz.
The conference’s exhibitor showcase, which featured dozens of community organizations located throughout Guilford County, offered parents more information and resources from community agencies and gave them a chance to ask questions.
“We are thrilled with the success of this event, as we were able to provide parents with some great information that will ultimately help them help their children succeed in school and beyond,” said Lindsay Whitley, director of Guilford Parent Academy.
