Public Forums Scheduled to Discuss New Superintendent and SROs
The Guilford County Board of Education will hold six public forums in February and March to hear what the community has to say about two different topics: the superintendent search and school resource officers (SROs).
The board will hold four forums, one in each school region, to discuss what the community would like to see in its next superintendent. All four forums will start at 7 p.m. and are scheduled for:
- Monday, Feb. 22 at Andrews High Auditorium, 1920 McGuinn Drive, High Point
- Tuesday, Feb. 23 at Northern High Auditorium, 7101 Spencer Dixon Road, Greensboro
- Thursday, March 10 at Southeast High Auditorium, 4530 Southeast School Road, Greensboro
- Monday, March 21 at Dudley High Auditorium, 1200 Lincoln Street, Greensboro
Superintendent Maurice “Mo” Green’s last day with GCS will be March 18, before he takes on his new role as executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. The board hopes to have a new superintendent selected before the 2016-17 school year begins. Nora Carr, chief of staff, and Terrence Young, chief information officer, were selected as co-interim superintendents until a permanent replacement is found.
The board will also listen to the community’s thoughts on the role of SROs in schools with two separate meetings. Both forums will start at 7 p.m. and are scheduled for:
- Monday, Feb. 29 at Penn-Griffin School for the Arts Auditorium, 825 Washington Street, High Point
- Thursday, March 3 at Grimsley High Auditorium, 801 Westover Terrace, Greensboro
All six forums will be held in addition to regularly scheduled board meetings which are Feb. 9, Feb. 25, March 8 and March 24.
Anyone wishing to speak at any of the forums is invited to do so and can sign up at the event or by calling (336) 370-8100 any time before 5 p.m. the day of the forum.
