GCS Names New Administrator, Principal
Guilford County Schools announced Julius Monk as the new executive director of facilities and Meredith Chandler as the new principal of Stokesdale Elementary School at the Dec. 3 Board of Education meeting.
Monk is currently the district's director of construction, a position he has held since 2007. In that role, he organizes and directs designers, contractors, consultants and project management staff within the construction department. He also leads the development and management of capital improvement program scopes and budgets, updating and implementing GCS' facilities baseline standards and working with the department's Minority and Women Business Enterprises program. Monk is also the liaison between the district departments and members of the public, school officials, zoning officials and regulatory government agencies.
He has also served as supervisor of mechanical systems and project management consultant for GCS. Monk has a bachelor's degree from North Carolina A&T State University and a master's from Western Carolina University.
Meredith Chandler will be the new principal of Stokesdale Elementary School. She is currently a K-5 Math Curriculum Specialist for GCS, a role she has held since 2007. In that position, Chandler planned and coordinated the 2013 summer literacy camp, which included interviewing and hiring 46 staff members, preparing and managing the budget and creating daily schedules and assessments for 500 students.
Chandler also coordinated writing elementary lesson plans based on the Common Core State Standards, which included managing a $2 million budget and hiring 60 staff members. Her previous positions with GCS include teaching at Southern and Bluford Elementary schools. Chandler has a bachelor's and master's degree from UNC Greensboro.
