GCS Responds to Connecticut School Tragedy
Guilford County Schools (GCS) is shocked and saddened by the tragic school shooting in Newtown, Conn. We join the nation in keeping the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers. We also extend our support to our fellow educators and emergency responders who are dealing with this tragedy.
At GCS, like schools and school districts across the nation, we make every effort to keep our students safe. We have security plans in place at all of our schools, and they are reviewed periodically. We also reminded all our students and staff to follow our safety policies, and to know who is entering our buildings and why. We also work closely with local law enforcement and the county emergency management office.
We have prepared additional information to help parents and staff members communicate with our students. The tips are from the National Association of School Psychologists.
Our school counselors are also available to help families. Please contact your school if you need more assistance. GCS employees may contact their supervisor for additional guidance. Employees may also contact the GCS Employee Assistance Program.
As a reminder, safety concerns may be reported anonymously to Campus Crime Stoppers. In High Point, Crime Stoppers' number is 889-4000; the Greensboro number is 373-1000. Students across Guilford County can also text tips to 274637 (CRIMES). Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students, staff and schools safe.
