Community Celebrates Herb Goins Field House Naming
Halftime of the Andrews High versus High Point Central High football game on Friday, Aug. 17 will feature a special dedication ceremony for the naming of the Herb Goins Field House at Simeon Stadium.
The season opener for both schools begins at 7:30 p.m. with the naming dedication expected to occur at approximately 8:30 p.m.
Before retiring from GCS in 2008, Goins was the district's athletic director for 12 years. He also served as Andrews High's head football coach and athletic director for 16 years. As a football coach, he compiled an overall record of 169-73-4 and led his teams to 15 conference championships and two state championships.
Both High Point Central High and Andrews High use the facilities at Simeon Stadium, and both school communities supported the name.
The Guilford County Board of Education approved the naming proposal following a 30-day period of public comment to receive feedback on the naming.
