New Principals Announced for Three Schools
Guilford County Schools (GCS) announced the appointment of principals for three schools and a new executive director of advanced learning.
Jamal Crawford is the new principal of Kirkman Park Elementary. Crawford is a 17-year education veteran, having spent the last seven years as a principal in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and Jasper County, S.C. He takes the place of Naquita Brewington-McCormick, who is now the principal of Welborn Academy of Science and Technology.
Cynthia McKee will become the new principal of Irving Park Elementary. McKee has served as an elementary principal in the Alamance-Burlington School System for the past four years. She was named the Alamance-Burlington Principal of the Year for 2012. McKee also has served as an assistant principal and special education teacher.
Richard Thomae, who has served as principal at Murphey Traditional Academy for four years, will become the new principal at Northwest Middle. Thomae has served GCS for 17 years. Before becoming principal at Murphey, he was an assistant principal at Northwest Middle for seven years.
Dibrelle Tourret was named executive director of advanced learning. Most recently, she served as the interim executive director of advanced learning and as the district's coordinator for Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB). Tourret joined GCS in 2002 as a foreign language teacher at Grimsley High, where she taught French for nine years. She also served as the AP and IB Coordinator at the school from 2008 to 2011. Prior to teaching at Grimsley, she taught English at Mairie de Joigny in Joigny, France for three years.
