Class of 2012 Offered More Than $139 Million

The Guilford County Schools (GCS) Class of 2012 may be finishing up their last days of high school, but already they've proven their record-breaking earning potential.

This year's GCS graduates were offered a total of $139,050,955 in scholarship dollars, smashing last year's previous record amount of $121,752,804 by more than $17 million. Included in that amount are athletic, academic, fine arts, merit, need-based, military and GTCC scholarships and grants. Loans are not included.

"I am very proud of our high school counselors' scholarship-coordinating efforts to assist students with finding financial-aid opportunities for higher education," said Fredricca Stokes, supervisor of high school counseling. "This outstanding total reflects the hard work and dedication of all school employees helping our students to strive, achieve and excel to higher education institutions."

Topping the list of earnings is Grimsley High, which garnered $17,832,932 in 455 scholarships. Following closely behind were The Early College at Guilford with $16,487,303 in 287 scholarships, and Northwest Guilford with $14,392,446 in 357 scholarships.
