Board Electoral Districts Approved for Use in 2012 Elections
The U.S. Department of Justice notified the Guilford County Board of Education that it has completed the preclearance process for new electoral voting precincts for board members. The Justice Department elected not to interpose any objections, which permits the board to hold elections using the new precincts.
The changes will take effect with the next Board of Education elections in 2012. The filing period for candidates is scheduled for Feb. 13-29, 2012. Further information for running and voting in the elections may be obtained from the Guilford County Board of Elections website or by calling 336‑641‑3836. The new precincts will be used for all future elections until redistricting is required again.
The redistricting of electoral voting precincts adopted by the board was necessary to reflect changes from the latest census data, which showed a population imbalance that required correction. Two public forums were held to gather community feedback on the changes. The new board electoral districts do not affect any student assignment boundaries.
