High Point Central Ready for Basketball
The High Point Central High boy's and girl's basketball teams remain focused on a successful season even though home games will be played at surrounding high schools.
Due to construction, the school's teams will play most home games at Southwest High (4364 Barrow Road, High Point) with the first home game to be played on Monday, Nov. 28 for both the boys' and girls' programs. The boy's JV team opens with a 4:30 p.m. game followed by a girl's varsity game at 6 p.m. The boy's varsity team closes out action that evening at 7:30 p.m.
The construction is part of the 2008 School Bond project. The approximate $5 million project includes renovations of the gymnasium. The gym will be expanded to make room for a new concession stand and ticket booth as well as a new multi-purpose room and renovated locker rooms and offices. An additional 9,000 square feet will be created through the project.
"We are excited about the upcoming season and also very grateful for our friends at Southwest Guilford and other area schools for their generosity and hospitality," said Mike Cook, the school's athletic director. "High Point Central is committed to having a successful and memorable season for our athletes, fans and community. Our gym will be well worth the wait, and the Bison family is so very excited about the future."
Students will continue to take advantage of the school's Code Blue program, an incentive program that encourages attendance to all Bison athletic events. Incentives include t-shirts, gift cards and even a letter jacket.
High Point Central High will be the designated home team at the following basketball games:
