Board Votes to Allow Craven Elementary Demolition
After collecting and considering feedback regarding the future of Craven Elementary, the Guilford County Board of Education voted last night to approve the demolition of the buildings at the site, located at 3701 Parkwood Drive in Greensboro.
The 1955 building had not been in use since the late 1990s and had fallen into significant disrepair. The board voted to designate $270,000 received from the North Carolina Department of Transportation Right of Way compensation fund for building demolition.
The 7.7-acre site will be retained by Guilford County Schools for undesignated use and will be maintained in accordance with its residential and park surroundings.
Feedback received by GCS regarding the property was generally in favor of demolition. The board had asked for a 30-day public comment period before proceeding with any plans.
