Good evening, Brightwood Family! This is Principal Stokes. I just want to take this time to welcome you all to another great week at Brightwood Elementary School.  We are so grateful for all the support that you all have provided to us these last couple of weeks.

Parents, please be sure to read and acknowledge that you have read the Technology Student Handbook so that your scholar can receive his/her device. It is your child’s responsibility to keep up with his/her device and assigned charger.

Please remember that our doors open at 7:00 am for students to enter. Students should not be dropped off before 7:00 am. If your child is a car rider, you will need to drive around the parking lot to join the car rider line. A school staff member will open the door for your scholar to exit the vehicle to enter the school. We ask that as our scholars are exiting the vehicle that they have their mask on and all the items they will need for school for the day. This will help with moving our line faster. Please expect some delays in the car rider line. We have approximately 470 students, and only 175 of these scholars are bus riders.  The remaining students are van riders and/or car riders.  Trust me, we are doing the best we can to get your babies out to you as fast as we can.  We ask that you continue to be patient with us as we do the same with each of you.

Our tardy bell will ring at 7:25 am.  If your child is not here by 7:25 am, they are tardy.  We are starting school a little earlier this year. Our instructional day ends at 2:10 pm daily.  We will begin dismissing at 2:13 pm.  If you need you need to pick your child up early for appointments, you will need to pick them up before 1:45 pm.  When you pick your child up daily early, they are missing instructional minutes that they can not get back; 25 minutes a day will equal 125 minutes a week, which then totals 500 minutes a month.

The morning second line will not start until 7:00 am once a staff member is outside to direct the traffic.  Please do not start the second line for afternoon dismissal until 2:00 pm.  Please remember that all scholars are expected to have and/or wear their school One Cards throughout the day.  They are expected to bring their One Cards home and bring them back to school daily.  If your child is a bus rider, please be sure to download the Here Comes the Bus app to receive updates on your child's bus ride to and from school.  Please visit our school website for directions on how to download and access Here Comes the Bus app.

All students and staff members are expected to wear their mask when they are in school.  Please help us by reminding our scholars the importance and purpose of wearing our mask.  We will also continue practicing the 3 W's: Wait, Wear, and Wash.

Parents, students will need to bring refillable water bottles to school to have access to water from the water coolers. Please be sure to label their water bottles.

Parents, please remember if your child is feeling sick, please do not send them to school. Please be sure to contact the school as soon as possible.  We want to protect all students from any sickness or illness.  We understand we are entering allergy season and with the new possible Covid symptoms we don’t want to put others at risk.  If your child is out sick with any Covid-like related symptoms, he/she will need a doctor’s note to return noting that his/her symptoms are not Covid related.  If your child is exposed to a positive Covid case and/or tests positive for Covid 19, please contact the school as soon as possible.

We greatly appreciate your support as we continuously work to provide an excellent education every day to each of our Brightwood Tiger Scholars this school year.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us here at the school or send us a message on ClassDojo. Please make sure that you have joined your child’s class ClassDojo as well as the school’s ClassDojo.  Thank you for all that you do, and have a great evening. Remember, you are amazing!
