Good evening, Brightwood Family. This is Principal Stokes!

Welcome to another great week of learning at Brightwood Elementary School.  Our doors open at 7:00 am and our instructional time does not end until 2:10 pm. If you need to pick your child up early for an emergency, you must do so before 1:45 pm. If you arrive after 1:45 pm you will have to pick your child up in the regular car rider line or at your child’s bus stop.  Please understand that at this time, we begin dismissing PreK, and we can not have parents and students crossing one another at the front door.

Students and staff are required to always wear masks, except when eating or drinking. They must have a mask when getting on the school bus as well.  If your child is a bus rider, please make sure that you have downloaded the Here Comes the Bus app for updates.  If you are able to transport your child to school for the next couple of weeks, I strongly encourage you to transport your child to and from school. Please remember that our car rider drop off times are 7:00 am – 7:25 am.  Our afternoon pick up times are 2:15 pm – 2:45 pm.

We also ask that you make sure that your child comes to school daily with their GCS-issued device charged and bring their charging cords. They will also need to bring all their needed learning material to school and have a positive can-do or at least I-will-try attitude this new year.

This week we will begin our midyear assessments in all grades.  All students must bring their devices and charging cords to school. They will need them for testing this week. 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be taking their 2nd Quarter Interim Assessments on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.  The 2nd quarter grading period ends on Friday; all missing work will need to be completed and turned in by Friday.

Please remember that students should stay home if they’re sick. Anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms must stay home and get a test for COVID-19 on day five. Anyone experiencing cold or flu symptoms should stay home and contact their healthcare provider for guidance. If your child comes to school with cold or flu-like symptoms, we will follow GCS outlined policy for proper student return.  If you or your child test positive for COVID-19 or come in contact with someone that tested positive for COVID-19, you must contact me immediately.  This helps us stop the spread of the illness and stop others from getting sick.

We greatly appreciate your support as we continuously work to provide an excellent education every day to each of our Brightwood Tigers this school year.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us here at the school or send us a message on ClassDojo. Thank you for all that you do and have a great evening. Remember you are amazing!
