200 New GCS Teachers Shop for FREE School Supplies

Teachers new to Guilford County Schools (GCS) will be the first to shop in the Guilford Education Alliance’s (GEA) new Teacher Supply Warehouse this weekend.

For a decade GEA’s Teacher Supply Warehouse has served thousands of teachers by providing free classroom supplies. Earlier this year, the warehouse moved to a new space at 311 Pomona Drive, Suite E, in Greensboro. Volunteers, staff and donors have spent several months renovating the space and stocking the shelves in time to serve teachers for the upcoming 2016-17 school year.

The first shoppers welcomed into the new space will be teachers new this year to GCS, including first year teachers, lateral entry teachers coming from other careers, as well as experienced teachers joining GCS. The school district expects hundreds of new teachers this school year. Of those, 200 have been invited to shop this week during their Right Start orientation. The remaining will shop in August during a second training week.

Teachers will shop at the new location 311 Pomona Drive, Suite E in Greensboro during the following times:

  • Thursday, July 21, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
  • Friday, July 22, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
  • Saturday, July 23, 9:30 am – 3:00 pm

“The new space really allows us to serve more teachers and to serve them better. We can be open evenings and weekends. The location is more convenient – and it is really bright and welcoming,” offered GEA’s Program Director Shelley Ewing.

The warehouse accepts new and gently used supplies. A list of high demand supplies is available on GEA’s website at guilfordeducationalliance.org.

“Teachers work so hard, and spend so much of their own money buying supplies. Donating supplies to the warehouse is such an easy, practical and tangible way for anyone to help. We are grateful for all of the community businesses and partners who regularly donate supplies,” added Louise Courts, GEA Development Director.
