How to Get a Closer Look at Your GCS School of Choice

More than 5,400 people attended the Guilford County Schools Choice Showcase at the Greensboro Coliseum Saturday to explore the more than 50 magnet programs and 14 career and technical education areas offered by GCS.

Now, families can get a closer look at schools of interest through Magnet Mondays and High School Options Nights. Magnet Mondays start today, Jan. 23, and allow families to see schools of interest during the school day. Each magnet school will host at least three Magnet Monday events, in addition to an open house in the evening.

GCS also offers two separate events to allow parents and students more time to research the district's 22 high school options. Events are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 2, at Jefferson Elementary in Greensboro and on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Union Hill Elementary in High Point. Both events are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and will allow parents to interact with school staff from each of the high school choice programs across the district.

GCS options include visual and performing arts, International Baccalaureate, science and technology, language immersion and global studies, plus 22 different high school programs including nine early or middle colleges on college campuses.

This is all in addition to the high quality education offered at GCS’ traditional schools, which also offer CTE programs that include health sciences, manufacturing, finance, public safety and more.

All magnet applications will be accepted now through Feb. 17, 2017 at 5 p.m. For more information on the application process, click here.
