McCully Named GCS Chief Operations Officer

Guilford County Schools (GCS) will have a new Chief Operations Officer starting July 1, 2017. The Guilford County Board of Education unanimously appointed Scott McCully to the position at its meeting Thursday night.

In his new role, McCully will oversee the district’s transportation, technology, facilities, maintenance, student assignment, student information and emergency management departments.

McCully currently serves as executive director of planning and student placement for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), North Carolina’s second largest school district. In that role, he directed full implementation of the student assignment plan; led athletics, student placement and student records; designed and received approval for a five-year capital improvement plan; and drove efficiency throughout the district.

Prior to his work at CMS, McCully served as director of demographics and strategic planning for Topeka Public Schools in Kansas.

McCully replaces Dr. Terrence Young, who retired earlier in the year. Dr. Randy Shaver will continue to serve as interim until July 1, 2017.
