New Hunter Elementary Nears Completion

It’s coming down to landscaping and furniture. Construction on the new Hunter Elementary is substantially complete, and the building is now occupied by the school’s staff. Workers are now beginning to demolish the old building and are expected to be complete by the end of August.

The Guilford County Board of Education received an update on all construction projects at its meeting Thursday.

Major renovations and upgrades at Bluford STEM Academy are also nearly complete, while work continues on High Point Central’s campus. Projects there include the addition of a new stair tower, a media center conversion and fire sprinkler installation.

At Western Guilford, physical education improvements and cafeteria expansion is ongoing, as are fieldhouse, stadium and locker room improvements at Smith High.

Guilford Middle’s school replacement project and the concession restroom building at Southern Guilford High are halfway complete.

In 2008, Guilford County voters approved $457 million in school construction bonds. To date, more than $385 million has been spent or is currently under contract. The nine priority projects are being paid for by money saved on earlier 2008 bond construction projects and redirected funds from the Airport Area High School project.
